KWBG HEADLINES ON APRIL 2, 2010

BOONE, Iowa---Spending was not cut as much as many people think, that according to State Senator Jerry Behn. Behn told KWBG that the general fund portion of the state’s budget is balanced, but he says there’s additional spending of one-time funds that will push overall spending to just short of $6-billion. Behn says he believes the legislature will start the next session in another budgetary hole.

BOONE, Iowa---The Boone City Council had hoped to get some relief for residents by getting a delay in the next segment of the city’s sanitary sewer rehabilitation project, but it doesn’t appear that will happen anytime soon. The Department of Natural Resources has denied the request, but has agreed to meet with Council during their meeting Monday to discuss the issues. Council members have been concerned about rate increases and the impact on the public.

BOONE, Iowa---The Boone City Council has been without representation from the 4th Ward, the northwest part of the city since early March, but that could be resolved during Monday’s Council meeting. Interested residents were invited to submit letters of interest in an appointment to fill the unexpired term of Glen Thompson who resigned March 8th. The Council hopes to select a nominee. The appointment process was chosen to avoid the expense of a special election.
