KWBG HEADLINES ON APRIL 5, 2010

BOONE, Iowa---There are three people interested in being appointed to the Boone City Council to represent the 4th Ward. Letters of interest were received from former Council Member Travis Stevenson, former member of the Park Commission Steve McCoy and businessman and contractor Kevin Hicks, owner of Hicks Construction. The Council will discuss the candidates and could make a recommendation for appointment to fill the vacancy created with the resignation of Glen Thomas in March.

BOONE, Iowa---The Department of Human Services has announced some major changes at the Boone County DHS office. Staff members were told Monday that the Boone Office will become a part-time office effective July 1st. 23-counties are being changed from fulltime to part-time. Charles Krogmeier, DHS Director says clients will receive services through reduced hours or by appointment. He says the changes are needed to deal with expected staff reductions and changing logistics.

Boone, Iowa---State Representative Donovan Olson, Democrat from Boone has formally announced his intent to seek re-election to the seat he currently in the Iowa House of Representatives. Olson was first elected to the District 48 seat in 2002. District 48 includes most of Boone County and a part of Dallas County.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - City leaders say Des Moines' decades-old skywalk system needs a facelift to help transform downtown into a more vibrant center. Changes envisioned in a skywalk study could include expanding the system as well as fixing long-standing problems such as out-of-date signs and directories.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa doesn't seem quite as interested in the tea party protest movement that's drawn so much attention elsewhere. Some Iowans have signed onto the anti-government effort, but activists have staged only one big rally and tea party supporters don't seem to be getting involved in political races.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Police have released the name of a Des Moines man whose body was found in a park by teens during an Easter egg hunt. They say Goddi Ishima's family had reported him missing before his body was found on Saturday in Beaverdale Park.

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Talk about wind energy will feature prominently this week at Iowa State University in Ames. The Iowa Alliance for Wind Innovation and Novel Development conference starts tomorrow on campus and The Iowa Wind Energy Association's conference will run through Wednesday.
