BOONE, Iowa---The Boone City Council voted to discontinue services with a Washington, D.C. based consultant and lobbying firm. For the past couple of years, the Council has had a contract in place for the Russ Reid company. City Administrator Luke Nelson recommended dropping the contract, noting the possibility of acquiring additional funds through earmarks would be very difficult. Nelson also noted that projects that received funding will continue to be presented to the congressional delegation by city officials. The City had been paying Russ Reid $10,000 a month. The proposed contract lowered the rate to $5,000 but had a balloon payment if more than $200,000 was secured for on going work in the community.
