BOONE, Iowa---Pleasant weather greeted a large turnout for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Linnwood Park Cemetery in Boone. The event, hosted by the Boone Veterans Council and the Boy Scouts of America in Boone, featured comments from Lt. Colonel David Willett, Medical Readiness Officer, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division of the Iowa National Guard. Willett is part of the massive call to active duty of some 3,000 Iowa guardsman. The unit will be serving in Afghanistan for a year. Willett talked about why, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, did so and he invited everyone to enjoy the freedoms that had been earned.
