MADRID, Iowa---A nearly head-on collision north of Madrid Monday morning closed down Highway 17 for a while. The accident, involving a car and a pickup occurred right before 10:00 AM. Multiple agencies responded to the call. A woman driver from the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown from the scene to a Des Moines Hospital. Sheriff Ron Fehr says the investigation is on going and additional information is not available at this time.
