Council to Consider Extending Burning Hours

BOONE, Iowa---The Boone City Council has voted 5-to-2 to bring forward an ordinance amendment that would extend the hours of open burning in the fall from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Boone Fire Chief Justin Adams had said the 5:00 time the fall is important to prevent colder air from trapping the smoke over the city, like smog. Council Member Gary Nystrom says the 5:00 time frame keeps people who don't get home from work later from burning their yard waste. The Burning Ordinance was adopted in 2000 after a number of residents petitioned to eliminate burning of yard waste altogether. The Council will consider the amendment October 17th.
