Ogden Farmer Dies in Accident

OGDEN, Iowa---Boone County Sheriff Ron Fehr says 74-year old Richard "Dick" Shaw of Ogden was the farmer pronounced dead at the scene of a farming accident near Pilot Mound Saturday morning.  Fehr says a hose on an anhydrous ammonia tank apparently broke and caused huge toxic cloud that settled over the field.  Officials believe Shaw was overcome by the fumes.  Shaw's son Michael, 54, attempted to rescue his father and shut down the anhydrous tanks, but calm conditions allowed the cloud to stay over the field.  Four first responders were also treated for affects of anhydrous at the Boone County Hospital.
