Storm Damage

BOONE, Iowa---It could take a few weeks before Boone County producers get a handle on the storm damage that occurred over the southeast quarter of Monday morning. Strong winds laid down whole fields of corn, downing power lines and more. Mark Licht, ISU Extension Crop Specialist says the damage happened at a time when the crop had begun tasseling. He says there may be a chance that some will recover. Licht says producers in the affected area will certainly see a yield reduction. Licht says the damage continued through Story, Marshall and a number of additional counties to the east. Wind speeds were estimated at 80 to 100 mph.
