BOONE, Iowa---Boone Mayor John Slight was not happy Monday, when the Boone City Council learned that they will now have to have a special election to fill a vacancy in the city's 4th ward. City Attorney Alan Schroeder told the Council that they have surpassed the 40-day limit for making an appointment to fill the vacancy. Saturday, April 17th was the 40th day. Last month, the Council voted to fill the vacancy, but did so with a secret ballot which violated the state's open records law. A special election will probably be scheduled after the June Primary Election.
