BOONE, Iowa---The Boone County Zoning Commission is discussing the future of a Conservation District Overlay in certain areas of Boone County. A conservation overlay is described as a means of protecting environmentally fragile land. The current issue is that maps, identifying portions of the county that would have an overlay have not been included in the county zoning ordinance. But, the text describing the purpose is included. County Planning and Development Director Sandra Monck will work with the Commission on guidelines and intended application of the conservation tool. The Commission has already forwarded a recommendation to the Supervisors to use a Conservation Overlay on property near the Ledges State Park up for rezoning for a minor subdivision.
