BOONE, Iowa---The Johnny Appleseed Tree Planting program has been a part of the Boone Community for 25-years. This year, the program may struggle a little, because the City Council asked the Park Commission to use money allocated for tree planting to be used for tree maintenance. Phil Brown has taken over the reigns of Johnny Appleseed and says redirected the funding has left the program a little short of funds for future tree plantings. The City Council had ordered no street tree plantings, which have been rare in recent years. This year the focus is around the new baseball field at DMACC, the gateway enterance to the community and in McHose Park. Donations for Johnny Appleseed can be made at City Hall and can only be used for tree plantings.
