City Considers Residential Development Support

BOONE, Iowa---The Boone City Council's Economic Development Committee has asked the full Council to set aside $100,000 to be used acquiring a demolishing residential properties.  Boone Mayor John Slight says he support the Committee's effort to demolish homes that can no longer be rehabilitated.  Committee members believe that the lots would then be purchased and new housing would be constructed.  The city actually did a similar program in the 90's when home were damaged by heavy rains and flooding.  Those lots were then redeveloped.  Slight says the money for the program is essential.  In the past, when dollars are short, funds to demolish properties were among the first to be eliminated.
