BOONE, Iowa---The Boone Fire Department began running a program Tuesday, collecting new box fans for distribution to Boone County residents that have inadequate cooling. Fire Chief Justin Adams said people can purchase a new box fan at anyone of a number of local businesses and drop it off at the Fire Department and they will handle the distribution. Fans will be brought to the cooling centers established in Boone, Madrid and Ogden and will be available to those that visit. They will also be available at the Boone Fire Department by calling 515-432-3446. Cooling center locations Wednesday, July 4th will be at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid and the Leonard Good Community Center in Ogden.
