BOONE, Iowa---With the recent heat wave, Boone County Emergency Management, the Salvation Army and others established cooling centers for those that had inadequate cooling. Centers were made available in Boone, Madrid and Ogden during the week, including on the 4th of July. Boone County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Morlan says with the conditions changing over the weekend, the service will be discontinued. Boone Fire Chief Justin Adams says the Fire Departments effort to pass out box fans will continue, because more weather is expected yet this summer. The Fire Department fan project targets the elderly, those without air conditioning, low income and those with children under 8. Information is available at the Boone Fire Department, 432-3446.
