BOONE, Iowa---With continued hot, humid weather, Boone County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Morlan and the Salvation Army have been putting together plans for cooling centers in Boone County. Morlan says Boone will have a cooling center at the Salvation Army Church on Benton Street Monday and Thursday. The First United Methodist Church at 7th and Arden will be available Tuesday and Friday. Morlan is still seeking a site for Wednesday. In Madrid, St. Malachy's Catholic Church will be available each day thru Friday. In Ogden, the Leonard Good Community Center will be available Tuesday thru Friday. Morlan says the centers will be open 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM each day. Boone County Transportation can provide rides at their regular rate of $5 in Boone and $7.50 from rural Boone County to town. He said no one will be turned away if they can't afford the fee. Wednesday, the 4th of July, police officers and deputies will transport people if needed, in between their usual calls. Contact should be made through the Boone County Communication Center at 515-433-0527.
