Weather Service Expands Weather Radio Coverage

BOONE, Iowa---Boone County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Morlan was investigating why several weather radios did not receive a severe thunderstorm alert last Saturday afternoon.  The Weather Service issued the alert at 3:00 PM and many in the spotter network didn't even realize it had occurred.  Because of the issue, Morlan says the Weather Service has not included storm alert coverage on the Fort Dodge Weather Radio at 162.400 MHz.  The Des Moines Weather Radio is at 162.550.  Morlan says residents should check both signals and use the strongest to monitor for alerts, especially residents in northwest Boone County.
