Conference Board Approves Budget

BOONE, Iowa---The budget was controversial, but the Boone County Assessor's Conference Board did adopt the budget that calls for a reduction in the tax rate and in the tax asking for the Assessor's office.  The original proposal put forth by Acting Assessor Phil Meier was a 60 cent levy raising nearly $700,000.  The Conference Board on March 14, asked that the rate be lowered to 50 cents, which meant a $125,000 reduction in taxes levied.  The change also led to some salary adjustments that were not well received by at least two employees who wish to appeal the decision at meeting that could be held the later this month.
